As it prepares to move into its new Baltimore home, the historic Mercantile Trust and Deposit Company building at 17 South Calvert Street at Redwood, Baltimore, the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company announced the lineup for its 2013–2014 season in Ellicott City.
Two Shakespeares are on the slate, along with Arthur Miller's The Crucible and a movable theater production of Bram Stoker's Dracula.
The last, adapted by Deane Hamilton and John L. Balderston and directed by Scott Alan Small, will kick off the season in October at the Patapsco Female Institute Historic Park. Presented at night among the ruins of the 19th century Patapsco Institute, the production will feature a company of actors performing scenes at various places in the park as the audience travels along. Dracula runs from Oct. 4–31, with extra performances Halloween week.
The company will produce William Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windsor Feb. 14–March 9 at the Black Box Theatre in the Howard County Center for the Arts in Ellicott City. Ian Gallanar directs.
The company then returns to Patapsco Institute Historic Park for another summer season of Chesapeake Shakespeare Company in the Ruins, with Shakespeare's As You Like It, directed by Patrick Kilpatrick, running in repertory with The Crucible, directed by Ty Hallmark. The summer season will run June 13–Aug. 3.
Construction on the new downtown Baltimore venue is set to begin next month. The company plans to start using the building in late 2014 but plans to continue presenting outdoor productions at the Patapsco ruins.
