Globe's Hamlet Added to Folger Season
The Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C., will kick off its 2012–2013 three-play theater season with a fourth play, an import from the Shakespeare's Globe in London: Hamlet. Directed by the Globe's artistic director, Dominic Dromgoole, and Bill Buckhurt, this Hamlet had a successful run at the Thames-side Globe and will tour Great Britain this summer. It is set to arrive at the Folger on Sept. 8 for an 18-performance run.
The Folger Theatre's regular season will get under way Oct. 23 with The Conference of the Birds, a stage version of the Farid Uddi Attar poem by Jean-Claude Carriere and Peter Brook. Folger regular Aaron Posner has been tapped to direct this adaptation of a 12th century Persian fable with original music performed by Tom Teasley.
Shakespeare's works will complete the rest of the schedule: Henry V opening Jan. 22 and Twelfth Night opening April 30. Both plays will be directed by Robert Richmond.
