The Night Shift Theater company has scheduled its next Drunken Shakespeare gathering for Sunday, May 3, at 310 Bowery Bar Room. The drinking and the performances begin at 7:30 p.m., and there is no charge to attend or participate.
"Rough winds do shake the darling Buzz of May with Drunken Shakespeare," says the program's flyer, an example of the good-time vibe and slight irreverence surrounding the event, which organizers call a Bardian-karaoke lovechild, while Time Out New York named it a Critic's Pick.
Drunken Shakespeare invites participants to strut their Shakespearean swagger, win raffle prizes, and hang with fellow fools and misfits, all in support of the Night Shift Theater's continuing cultivation of a fun-loving community of independent theater artists—and drinkers. Participants are invited to perform a speech or sonnet they've been dying to share outside of the audition room. Don't have a piece memorized? You can read from one of the Complete Works provided or from your phone. All that and a pot of ale, too.
The 310 Bowery Bar Room is at 310 Bowery, New York NY 10012 (www.310bowery.nyc/).
